This I’ve Learned

Blog July 5, 2021

I WAS THINKING…
it’s hard to believe July is already here. I don’t want to say the year is half gone because I’ll sound like the pessimist who says the glass is half empty.  We’ll just say, great! We still have six more months left in 2021. Don’t you just love the 4th of July? I do. It feels so good to have a day to celebrate our freedom. I like seeing all the flags flying on homes.  God Bless America!

DID YOU KNOW?
(Taken from Farmer’s 2020 Almanac)
The name ‘John Hancock” is synonymous with ‘your signature’ because Hancock’s bold signature on the Declaration of Independence overshadowed the other signatures. Legend says that Hancock wanted the king of England to see the rebellious signature without having to wear his spectacles.

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
Overheard in the clubhouse of a retirement village, “It’s not that I cheat,” the golfer explained, “It’s just that I play golf for my health and a low score makes me feel better.”

TIPS ON WATERING PLANTS
(Taken from Mary Ellen’s Helpful Hints)
Use water at room temperature. Cold water can injury plants.                                                    Stick finger one inch into soil, if it feels moist, delay watering.
The water used from boiling eggs is filled with minerals. Use it on your plants.
Fizzless club soda is good to add vigor and color to your plants.
Water hanging plants with ice cubes to avoid drips.
Water bulbs from the bottom. Fill a saucer with water and let the plant sit in it.
