This I’ve Learned

I WAS THINKING…
how autumn is here already. I know calendars don’t lie, otherwise I wouldn’t believe it. And of course, it’s another school year already in full swing. It’s neat to watch the neighborhood children get taller each year as they move to a higher grade. It brings back school day memories. But there is one thing different today. Most of us didn’t have back packs in our day.

 AUTUMN BRINGS THE HARVEST MOON
(Taken from The Old Farmer’s Almanac)
Why is it called the Harvest Moon? For several evenings, the moonrise comes soon after sunset, causing a bright moonlight early in the evening. This is an aid to farmers harvesting their summer crops. Hence, it’s called “Harvest Moon”.
This year the Harvest Moon appeared September 16th & 17th.  Did you see it? I did. There was a full moon about 30 minutes after the sun went down.

I COULDN’T HAVE SAID IT BETTER MYSELF
“Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.” — Albert Camus
“Autumn… the year’s last, loveliest smile.” — William Cullen Bryant
“Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting, and autumn a mosaic of them all.” — Stanley Horowitz
“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” — F. Scott Fitzgerald

MILK TO THE RESCUE
(Taken from Grandma Putt’s Problem Solvers)
Next time you get a sunburn try putting some milk on it. Grandma Putt says it works like magic.
Drink a glass of warm milk before bed. It helps the brain produce sleep-inducing serotonin.
Cure swollen eye lids: Soak 2 cotton pads in ice-cold mile, cover each eye for 10 minutes.

THIS I’VE LEARNED…
At one time or other we’ve all said something that we thought about later and realize it was a dumb thing to say. Perhaps we reacted before we thought. It’s over, we said it, and unless it’s something we need to apologize for, it’s best if we forget about it. Time moves on. Most likely no one else will remember.  Think about it!
