This I’ve Learned

I WAS THINKING…
about St. Patrick’s Day. Don’t you love watching Irish dancers? It reminds me of the time I could to a mean Irish jig. The other day I thought it be fun to see if I still had it in me. Well, at least I have the memory.

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
Three sisters ages 92, 94 and 96 live in a house together. One night the 96 year old draws a bath. She puts her foot in and pauses. She yells to the other sisters, “Was I gettin’ in or out of the bath?”
The 94-year-old yelled back, “I don’t know. I’ll come up and see.” She starts up the stairs and pauses. “Was I going up the stairs or down?”
The 92-year-old heard her sisters. She shook her head and said, “I sure hope I never get that forgetful. “She knocked on wood for good measure. She then yells, “I’ll come up and help both of you as soon as I see who’s at the door.”

HOUSEHOLD USES FOR CORNSTARCH
(Taken from Old Farmer’s Almanac)
Scrub Tubs: Mix 1 TBLS of cornstarch with 1 cup white vinegar in a glass measuring container: Mix well, microwave for two minutes then funnel into a spray bottle and add two TBLS of liquid detergent.
Clean Glass: Add one TBLS each of white vinegar and cornstarch to two cups water. Funnel into spray bottle to use on windows or door glass.
Remove Stains: Make a paste from cornstarch to remove stains on rugs, furniture, or other fabric items. Leave on to dry before brushing or vacuuming. Repeat if needed. (A cornstarch paste even works to remove grease and blood stains.)
Polish Silver: Mix cornstarch with water to bring out the shine in silver objects.

OVERHEARD
Everyone at some time is good for something, so no one is good-for-nothing.
The right to do something doesn’t always make it right to do.
A wise person is one who says nice things about us that we already know.

THIS I’VE LEARNED
So often when we have a small amount of food leftover, we just throw it away. Perhaps it might be enough to put it in a freezer bag and chances are there will be a time when we’re glad to have it. With the price of food these days, we might also find it helpful.  Think about it!
