This I’ve Learned

I WAS THINKING…
about Thanksgiving. Isn’t it great that there’s a day designated for people to be thankful. For one day, people are encouraged to acknowledge and appreciate the many reasons to be thankful. And perhaps not think about what’s happening around the world and feel at peace.
And then…get ready for Black Friday.

WHEN THANKSGIVING BECAME A FEDERAL HOLIDAY
(Taken from The Old Farmer’s Almanac)
It was in 1863 in the midst of the Civil War, that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November. It is always celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. In Canada, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday in Oct.

REFLECTIONS FOR THANKSGIVING
A moment of gratitude makes a difference in your attitude.
When you are thankful for what you have, you forget about what you don’t have.
One can’t feel thankful and be unhappy at the same time.
Don’t complain about the roses having thorns; be thankful the thorns have roses.
A bitter person can’t be thankful and a thankful person can’t be bitter.

FOR THE “OOPS” TIMES WHEN COOKING.
(Taken from Mary Ellen’s Helpful Hints)
Greasy gravy? Add a small amount of baking soda.
Prevent boil-overs by adding a lump of butter or cooking oil to the water.
Too sweet? Add salt or vinegar if it’s a main dish or vegetable.
Bread or rolls still frozen? Put in brown bag, place in 325 oven for 5 minutes.
To make lettuce and celery crisp, place in cold water with raw sliced potatoes.

THIS I’VE LEARNED
We’ve all made a decision that we later regreted. Choices have consequences and when we feel we made the wrong choice, it’s not always easy to get over it. But no matter how much we would want to do-it-over. It’s not possible. Although, it may not be easy, it is possible to move on. We’ve made many, many choices that have been great. Perhaps, if we acknowledge those and recognize the fact that everyone makes mistakes, we will realize that our bad choice wasn’t as important as we thought. Think about it.
