This I’ve Learned

I WAS THINKING…
how it’s fun to look at pictures that were taken several years ago. They bring back great memories. However, it also tells me how long I’ve been wearing some of the same clothes. Oh, it’s not that I don’t have a lot of clothes. In fact, it’s almost embarrassing when I realize how much I do have. I guess it’s a clue to get rid of clothes that I never wear. Or maybe I’ll just check pictures so I don’t wear the same clothes to the same event again.

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
A farmer owned two horses. He had trouble telling them apart, so he cut one horse’s tail very short. That didn’t work because the tail grew back. He trimmed one horse’s mane, but it grew back. Finally, he measured them. He found the gray horse was two inches taller than the black horse.

FAMOUS QUOTES
“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”Ralph Waldo Emerson
“Nothing is troublesome that we do willingly” Thomas Jefferson
“Finish each day and be done with it. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

THIS I’VE LEARNED
It’s uncertain how life is going to unfold for us. What happens is beyond our control but we have the freedom to control how we will respond to any situation. Sometimes life seems overwhelming to us, yet we must move on. Even when we have good family and friends support, it is our personal action of positive or negative feelings that controls our happiness, or not. Think about it.

HOW TO MAKE A GOOD GRAVY
(Taken from Haley Hints)
Creamy smooth gravy can be made by substituting 1/2 the flour with cornstarch.
To make gravy a nice brown color, darken it with instant coffee. One teaspoon will awaken the color without affecting the taste.
For a nutritious and great tasting gravy, use water in which vegetables have been cooked or canned. (Use the water from cooking potatoes that will be used for mashed potatoes.)
If gravy is too greasy, add a pinch of baking soda.
A spoonful of peanut butter stirred into burnt gravy will remove the scorched taste.
