This I’ve Learned

Blog March 18

I WAS THINKING…
about St. Patrick’s Day because it’s a day I get to be Irish. I hope you like the Irish music as much as I do? You know, the bag pipes, Danny Boy and the Irish jig. At one time I could do the Irish jig with the best, but now it’s a memory. At least I can watch the Irish dancers on PBS television. Maybe I’ll dance the jig along with them, or not.

WAS THERE REALLY A ST. PATRICK?
(Taken from Old Farmer’s Almanac)
Definitely. However, there are many legends about him that mix with the truth. He played a large role in spreading Christianity to Ireland. It’s said he drove snakes out of Ireland, which is probably not true since snakes weren’t native to Ireland to begin with. His impact was significant enough to warrant a celebration to this day.

PETROLEUM JELLY TO THE RESCUE
(Taken from Grandma Putt’s Problem Solver)
To remove lipstick, cover the spot with petroleum jelly and laundry as usual.
Rub a thin coat of petroleum jelly onto the rod of a shower curtain to make the rings glide more smoothly.
To mend a temporary leak in a plastic or lead pipe, cover crack with petroleum jelly and wrap pipe with waterproof tape pipe until plumber arrives.
Coat the inside of candle holder with petroleum jelly so the hardened wax drips will come off easy.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
On Feb. 19h I posted the link to watch the bald eagles setting on their nest waiting to hatch three eggs. It’s going to happen any day or perhaps already did by the time you read this. Here’s the information again.  It’ll be fun to watch.
Google: fobbv live eagle cam (fobbv stands for friends of Big Bear Valley)

WORDS OF WISDOM
A good example is the best sermon.
The Ten Commandments are not multiple choice.
Heaviest thing to carry is a grudge.
We lie the loudest when we lie to ourselves.
Tact is the ability to see others as they wish to be seen.

THIS I’VE LEARNED
Having a hobby or just doing something we really like to do might just be the best therapy for our happiness. It’s a time when we can feel in control because it’s our choice to do something that feels like fun. And it gives us a chance to take a break from the worry or unsettled decisions that nag our brain.
