This I’ve Learned

Blog July 1,

I WAS THINKING…
About my recent trip to Illinois to spend time with long-time friends and my family. It was a fun family reunion. I even got to walk on the farm-land where I grew up. I could hardly keep up with all my memories. There’s nothing better than visiting your roots, unless It’s going home and getting to sleep in your own bed.

QUOTES TO PONDER
Love is something if you give away, you end up having more. Alvin Reynolds
People are lonely because they build walls instead of bridges. Joseph Newton
A terrace nine stories high begin with a pile of earth. Lao-tzu
Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be. Abraham Lincoln

LET’S TALK ABOUT HUMMINGBIRDS
(Taken from Old Farmer’s Almanac)
They weigh about 4 grams. For a comparison, a U.S. penny weighs 2.5 grams.
Most species measure 3 to 5 inches. The bee hummingbird is only 2 inches long and weighs less than 2 grams.
They beat their wings as fast as 70 times per second. They don’t flap their wings, but rotate them in a figure 8. They can hover, stop instantly, and fly in different directions (even upside down) with exquisite control.
(To be continued. More information about hummingbirds next week)

CLEVER CENTERPIECE WITH FLOWERS
(Taken from Haley Hints)
To enhance a bowl of flowers, place a decorative mirror under it.
If a rose breaks from the stem, place it in shallow glass bowl, fill it with water and add a little sugar. Let the rose float on the surface to make a pretty centerpiece.
For special floral accents around your home, use spice jars to hold small-stemmed flowers. (Artificial works too) You can decorate with ribbon or lace.

THIS I’VE LEARNED
So often when we make a mistake our first thought is to find a reason to blame someone else. I suppose that makes it easier for us to accept the fact that we “goofed”. Everyone makes mistakes, so we should be humble enough to accept our mistake. Life goes on. Think about it.
