This I’ve Learned

I WAS THINKING
how long it’s been since we’ve had rain. Our once beautiful green hills are now a dirty brown. My lawn is making the water company rich. But then, I see the news and hear about flooding or remember the news about the unbearable past winter days for many states. On second thought, I can wait for Mother Nature to “come around’. Brown can be beautiful too.

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
A sense of humor is what makes you laugh at something that would make you mad if it happened to you.
It isn’t what you do in a house that shows, but what you don’t do.
You can tell the people who own a house. They’re the ones coming from the hardware store.
You know you are out of shape if your knees buckle and your belt doesn’t.
Recalling good old days makes you appreciate things you never noticed then.

RIPE IDEAS
(Taken from Mary Ellen’s Helpful Hints)
Ripen green fruit in a perforated plastic bag. The holes allow air movement, yet retain the odorless ethylene gas which promotes ripening.
Don’t leave tomatoes in direct sunlight. They will soften, rather than ripen. Store with the stem-up.
Ripen green bananas bn wrapping in a wet dish towel and place in paper sack.
Bury avocados in a bowl flour.

THIS I’VE LEARNED
It makes us feel good when someone does something for us. But often we don’t think about telling them how much we appreciate what they did. Perhaps if we make sure they know they are appreciated, they can have a ‘feel good’ feeling just as much as we do. Think about it!
