This I’ve Learned

I WAS THNKING…
about Labor Day. It reminded me how many people work really hard. Like the men putting on a new roof on my neighbor’s house across the street. They didn’t let the really hot weather stop them. I felt guilty in my cool air-conditioned house. I wanted to invite them in, but knew better. And I think about all the jobs that are so demanding, yet someone is doing it. So, on this Labor Day, I want to say CHEERS!

GEORGE BURN’S CLEVER QUIPS
(It’s been a long time, but some of us remember him)
“Too bad people who know how to run the country are busy driving taxies are cutting hair.”
“Happiness is having a large, loving, caring, close-knit family in another city.”
“I’d rather be a failure at something I love than a success at something I hate.”
“I was always taught to respect my elders and now I’ve reached the age when I don’t have anybody to respect.”
“I smoke cigars because at my age if I don’t have something to hang on to, I might fall down.”

TIPS FOR PRESERVING FRUITS & VEGETABLES
(Saw on You tube. Hope it works)
Bananas: Wrap moist paper towel around tip to reduce the release of ethylene. Put transparent tape around stem part of tomato to lock in moisture.
Put an apple with potatoes to keep from sprouting.
Soak strawberries in vinegar water for a few minutes before storing.
Put onion in ladies nylon stocking, tie in a knot.

THIS I’VE LEARNED
Sometimes we are so busy that we aren’t tuned in to the kindness that is shown us. It may be a small gesture as someone letting us through in traffic or a smile, a compliment, thank you note or many other. At the same time, we should be tuned in on how we can show kindness.  Think about it.
