I WAS THINKING…
about the new year…already? I’m still thinking about my resolution I made last year to ‘get rid of stuff’. Actually, it’s the same one I made the year before and the year…you know the rest. But this year, I’m going to do it. At least I’ll try. Aw well, there’s still next year.
ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
(Reader’s Digest New Year’s Jokes –or whatever they’re called)
Why should you stand on just your left foot during the New Year’s Eve countdown? So, you start the New Year on the right foot.
What’s a New Year’s resolution? Something that goes in one year and out the other.
What happened to the man who shoplifted a calendar on New Year’s Eve? He got 12 months.
What’s the one group that hates New Year’s Day? The New Year’s Eve cleanup crew.
My resolution is to get better at pretending to know the words to “Auld Lang Syne.”
HOME COOKING REMEDIES
(Taken from A Century of Home Remedies)
Sprinkle frying pan with salt before adding meat and the fat won’t splatter.
Add 1 tsp. lemon juice to each quart of water when cooking rice to make the grains stay separate and white.
To freshen lettuce, spinach or parsley, soak in cold water and add a slice of lemon.
When scalding milk, first rinse pan in cold water to keep it from sticking.
Sprinkle cake plate with powdered sugar to keep cake from sticking to plate.
Cook carrots in their skins until tender, the skin will slip off easier.

THIS I’VE LEARND
One of the best advices is probably one of the hardest…’Live in the moment’. We often dwell on our mistakes or the hurt someone caused us, even though we know there is nothing that can change it. Or we worry about what lies ahead for us. Perhaps if we really try to be content and optimistic in our present moment, we’ll be a happier person. Think about it!
