I WAS THINKING..
about the price of eggs. Has eggs ever been this expensive? I don’t remember. The other day I accidently dropped an egg on the floor. It felt like I was throwing money away. But when I thought about it, I was just glad I didn’t drop it on a carpet floor.
ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
(It’s a pun time)
Are you sweating while putting gas in your car? Feeling sick when paying for it? You’ve got the carowner virus.
I had to drive 50 miles through snow and ice to get a computer part I needed. It was a hard drive.
I don’t trust stairs because they’re always up to something.
I used to be a baker, but I could’t make enough dough.
I’m reading a book about anti-gravity. It’s impossible to put down.
I once got in a fight with a broken pencil. It was pointless.
HINTS FOR COOKING VEGETABLES
Different vegetables thrive with different cooking methods:
ROASTING – brings out deep, caramelized flavors, especially for root vegetables like carrots, sweet potatoes, and beets.
STEAMING – retains nutrients and gives a gentle texture, perfect for broccoli, spinach, or green beans.
SAUTÉING – is great for quick, crispy vegetables like bell peppers, zucchini, or asparagus.
GRILLING – adds a smoky flavor to veggies like corn, eggplant, or portobello mushrooms.
Vegetables can lose flavor, texture, and nutrients if overcooked. Aim for a slight crispness or tenderness, especially when roasting or sautéing.
When chopping vegetables, try to make the pieces similar in size to cook evenly, so some pieces don’t burn while others are undercooked.
A touch of acidity can help balance the natural sweetness of vegetables. Try a splash of vinegar (balsamic, apple cider) or a squeeze of lemon juice after cooking.
When steaming or sautéing, replace water with vegetable broth for a richer flavor profile.
OVERHEARD
Being on time for a sale will cost you less. Buying on time will cost you more.
If you can’t get what you want, just learn to want what you get.
It’s useless to know the right answers if no one asks the right questions.
THIS I’VE LEARNED
Sometimes we are annoyed with someone because of the way they are behaving. Before we start judging them, perhaps we should consider the fact that we don’t know what they are going through and give them the benefit of doubt. That’s what we would want them to do for us.
