This I’ve Learned

I WAS THINKING…
about a tree that’s not far from my house. It’s very unusual with the branches twisted around each other all the way up the tree. I’m not sure how rare the tree is, but it’s rare to me. I’m told the name of the tree is Brazilian pepper Tree. What I like best is that it gives me something ‘show off’ when I get visitors.

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
Don’t worry about getting senile because when it hits you, you won’t know it.
Nothing ages a person faster than trying to prove they are still young.
It’s surprising how many people our age is a lot older than we are.
We are told to respect our elders, but it’s getting harder and harder to find one.

DID YOU KNOW
(Taken from the book Fascination Facts)
No one can drown in the Dead Sea. It is 25 percent salt, which makes the water very heavy. This makes the body buoyant and almost impossible to remain submerged.
Dry ice does not melt. It evaporates.
Hot water weighs more than cold.
The color black absorbs heat. White reflects it.
All snow crystals are hexagonal.

CORNSTARCH TO THE RESCUE
(Taken from Grandma Putt’s Old Time Problem Solvers)
Clean carpet by sprinkling cornstarch over surface. Wait 30 minutes, and vacuum.
Clear books with patches of mildew by covering spots with cornstarch, leave for a few days, brush off—outdoors, so the mildew spores won’t latch on to anything else in the house.
Add a teaspoon of cornstarch to vinegar-and-water window cleaner. It eliminates streaks.
For a dry shampoo dab cornstarch on your roots with a makeup brush, let it absorb oil for a minute, then brush it out.
Sooth skin irritation with a bit of cornstarch in bath water or a paste directly on the skin to calm sunburn, rashes, or bug bites.

THIS I’VE LEARNED
Often, we use detergent or shampoo without taking the time to read the directions on the correct amount to use. We would most likely save money if we just bothered to measure. And of course, the proper amount would do a better job.  Think about it!
