This I’ve Learned

I WAS THINKING…
about Labor Day. It’s the one day of the year no one expects to work. So, we celebrate work by not doing any. Remember the day when we weren’t suppose to wear white after Labor Day? And most of us didn’t. Do you think anyone really cared? I’m sure glad I don’t have to hang up my white slacks just yet.

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
(
The corny side of Labor Day)
I tried working at the IRS, but it was too taxing.
Inspecting mirrors is a job I could really see myself doing.
Working as a tailor is sew-sew.
I’m reading a book on anti-gravity.  It’s impossible to put down.
I would tell you a construction joke, but I’m still working on it.
I followed my heart and it led me to the beach.
I’ve got a joke about beer… but it’s still brewing.

REMEDIES FOR PUFFY EYES
(Taken from Country Doctor’s Secrets Handbook)
Stick a spoon in a glass of ice water for about 30 seconds, then hold he curved back of the spoon against your eye.
Place cold, crisp cucumber slices on your eyes for about 15 minutes.
Soak a washcloth or gauze pads in Ice tea, then place over the eyes.

DID YOU KNOW?
The best half of an avocado to eat later is the one with the seed. Don’t remove the seed and cover with lemon juice.
If you peel too many potatoes, cover with cold water and a few drops of vinegar. It will keep in the fridge for a couple days or more.

THIS I’VE LEARNED
It feels good to remember someone with a gift. Although sometimes we might feel unappreciated because we didn’t receive a thank-you. Texting or a special phone call works, but a hand written thank you card is best. If someone makes the effort to remember somebody, it shouldn’t be too much to show appreciation. Perhaps there may be times when we forget to express thanks.  Think about it!
