This I’ve Learned

I WAS THINKING…
about what was said how the new year compares to a fresh blanket of snow. One must be careful how they move forward because every step will show. I personally think that’s an ingenious comparison. Maybe I should keep thinking about.

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
OVER HEARD AT THE SENIOR CENTER
I don’t wear hearing aids because people will expect me to listen to them.
One good thing about my bad eyesight, I can’t see my wrinkles and gray hair.
I know I’m old but I’d rather be old than dead.
I never lie about my age. I just say I’m two years younger than my sister. Then I lie about her age.

HINTS WHEN SOMETHING GOES WRONG WITH COOKING
(Taken from Mary Ellen’s Best of Helpful Hints)
Too salty soup or stew
: Add cut raw potato, discard once cooked and salt is absorbed.
Soggy lettuce: Add lemon juice to a bowl water and soak for an hour in the refrigerator.
Lettuce and celery: To crisp up fast, place in a pan of cold water with a raw sliced potato.
Cream that won’t whip: Set bowl of cream into a bowl of ice while whipping. If cream still won’t stiffen, gradually whip in 3 or 4 drops of lemon juice. Cream whipped ahead of time will not separate if you add a touch of unflavored gelatin.
Soggy mashed potatoes: Overcooked potatoes can become soggy when the milk is added. Sprinkle with dry powdered milk for fluffy mashed potatoes.

THIS I’VE LEARNED
Sometimes we forget to express our appreciation for our Christmas gifts. A thank you note or text seems insignificant compared to the time and money someone spent to give us the gift. Let’s not forget. Think about it.

Happy New Year written in snow.
