I WAS THINKING…
about Girl Scott cookies. Having a (great) granddaughter ask me to buy some cookies is a good enough excuse to have them in the house. I can give up other sweets. My guess is that many of the cookies sold are to grandparents.
ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
An elderly woman was telling her friend about a date with a 90-year-old man.
“Would you believe I had to slap his face three times?”
“You mean that he got fresh with you?”
“Oh no. I had to keep slapping his face to keep him awake.”
FASINATING FACTS ABOUT THE UNIVERSE
(Taken from a 1977 book called Fastinating Facts)
Clouds fly higher during the day than during the night.
The sun is 330,330 times larger than the earth.
All the planets in our solar system could be placed inside the planet Jupiter.
Because of the speed at which the sun moves, it’s impossible for a solar eclipse to last more than 7 minutes and 58 seconds.
A rainbow can only be seen in the morning or late afternoon. It can occur only when the sun is 40 degrees or less above the horizon.
HELPFUL HINTS
(Taken from Mary Ellen’s Helpful Hints)
Preserve newspaper clippings: Dissolve a milk of magnesia tablet in a quart of club soda overnight. Pour into a pan large enough to accommodate the flattened newspaper. Soak clipping one hour. Remove and pat dry. Allow to completely dry before moving. It will keep for over 100 years.
Wrapping packages: Wrap a string around the package to be wrapped and use it to premeasure the length of gift-wrapping paper from a large roll.
Too many suds: If your washing machine has too many suds, pour in a little fabric softener. Suds will disappear.
THIS I’VE LEARNED
We often wonder how long we had something or when a picture was taken. Perhaps we should learn from our mistake and keep a record or put a date on items or pictures. Think about it.
