This I’ve Learned

I WAS THINKING…
about two lovely ladies who were on their way to living to be 100, but recently, only weeks apart, their journeys ended. Lillie was 97 and Rhea was 99. I can only pray that my mind will stay as sharp as theirs when I get to be that age. I loved the way they referred to me as “young”. Perhaps the reason for their longevity were some of the things they had in common. They were both very confident; they knew what they wanted and perhaps a touch of feisty. Their appearance was important, especially stylish hair. As a volunteer for Catholic Charities, I had the privilege of driving them to appointments and shopping for many years. I learned so much from those ladies. And all this time they thought I was helping them.

OVERHEARD AT THE SENIOR CENTER
I don’t do alcohol anymore. I get the same effect just standing up fast.
I’m not doing yoga. I don’t even like tying my shoes.
No, you’re not fat, just easy to see.

HOW TO TREAT A BURN
DO NOT apply grease or butter, as I was taught growing up. This will trap heat and make the burn deeper. It may cause infection. Soothe the burned area with cold running water immediately for at least 5 minutes. It helps lessen the pain and prevents the heat from penetrating deeper.
Cover with sterile pad or clean cloth.
Try not to burst a blister.

BEST ADVICE
Allow others to be themselves without judging.
Cherish the moment. You will never see it again.
Forget your regrets. There is absolutely nothing that can change it.

PUNCH LINES
Never buy a dog at a flea market.
You can tell the score of a game before it starts. It’s nothing to nothing.
