This I’ve Learned

I WAS THIHNKING…
about the luncheon I recently enjoyed with the Red Hat Ladies. I’ve been one of those ladies for many years. There was a time when it wasn’t unusual to see a bunch of ladies with red hats giggling and having fun, but recently-not so much. The Red Hat Society started in 1998. It’s such a great excuse for ladies to get together and have fun for no special reason. You had to be at least fifty to join, but most were considerable much older. Perhaps this explains why the club is dying, literally.

A SHORT HISTORY ABOUT THE RED HAT SOCIETY
In November 1997, Red Hat founder Sue Ellen Cooper’s gift of a red hat and the poem by Jenny Joseph titled “Warning” grew into something much larger than a club or group; it evolved into a women’s movement of sorts consisting of members committed to supporting each other through fun and friendship.
In 1998, the Red Hat Society became an official organization and since that time has spread to millions of women around the globe. Membership grew from two chapters in 1999 to more than 40,000 chapters worldwide within five years.
The first two lines of the poem read:
When I am old woman, I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.
(You can google to read more and the rest of the poem.)

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
Make peace with your past so it doesn’t spoil your present.
What others think of you is none of your business.
Time heals most everything, give the time, some time.
No one is the reason for your happiness except you yourself.
Don’t compare your life with others, you don’t know about their journey.
Stop thinking too much, it’s alright not to know all the answers.
Smile, you don’t own all the problems of the world.

KNOW WHEN TO WATER YOUR PLANTS
Don’t over-water plants, but make sure they get enough water. Push a pencil into the soil. If there is dirt on it, don’t water. If it’s soil free, it’s time to water. It’s that simple.

PUNCH LINES
If you think the world is moving too fast, stand in line at the post office.
If you think nobody thinks about you, just neglect to file your tax return.
