This I’ve Learned

I WAS THINKING…
about recently when I was walking in the park I saw a boy, about 5 or 6 years old, fall off his bicycle. I ran to help him. He was okay. A little later as I walked by the basketball court where he and a couple of his friends were riding their bikes, I heard one of them yell, “Watch out for that old l lady.” Then there was a quick response “That’s not an old lady. She’s the nice lady who helped me.” I had to chuckle. But it made me realize it’s time for me to admit that I look like an old lady. One other thing I learned; action speaks louder than looks.

CLEVER POEM
(In case you didn’t hear it before)
Old age is golden, so I’ve heard it said,
But sometimes I wonder, as I crawl into bed,
With my ears in a drawer, my teeth in a cup,
My glasses on the table until I get up.
As sleep dims my vision, I say to myself:
Is there anything else I should lay on the shelf?
The reason I know my youth is all spent
Is my get-up-and-go has got up and went.
But in spite of it all, I’m able to grin
And think of the places my get-up has been.

WORDS OF WISDOM
(An African Proverb)
If you want to go fast, go alone;
If you want to go far, go with others.

FOOD HINTS
(Taken from Reader’s Digest Household Hints)
Don’t discard rind of lemon or oranges. They make excellent flavorings. Some ideas are for muffins, cakes and frostings. Grate the rinds, and freeze.
Peel the tough lower stalks of asparagus with potato peeler. Cook as usual; the stalks will be as tender as the tips.
Slice tomatoes vertically rather than horizontally. The slices will stay firmer in a salad and keep the salad dressing from getting watery.

PUNCH LINES
What is not said doesn’t have to be unsaid.
Suffering in silence often takes all the pleasure out of it.
