This I’ve Learned

I WAS THINKING…
about two little words that has an enormous meaning. They can haunt us and keep us awake at night. They can cause us to regret what we said or what we should have said. I couldn’t even guess how many times I’ve said ‘IF ONLY’. Of course, I know, I can’t undo what is over. If only I could remember that.

SMILES FROM THE PAST
George Burns: I was always taught to respect my elders, and now I’ve reached the age when I don’t have to respect anybody.
Rodger Dangerfield:
She was so old that when she went to school, they didn’t have history.
Bob Hope: I found the secret to my youth: I lie about my age.
Milton Berle:
I’m growing old by myself. My wife hasn’t had a birthday in years.

TIPS ON OPENING HARD TO OPEN CONTAINERS
To open cans that have loops on top of the lid, put the handle of a wooden spoon in it and use the spoon as a lever.
Ask your pharmacy not to use childproof caps on your pill bottles. Most will accommodate you.
When buying a grocery item that has a hard to open lid, ask the check-out clerk to loosen the lid for you.

Daffynitions.
Bigamist: A guy who took one too many.
Etiquette: The noise you don’t make when eating soup.
An ideal job: A night watchman in a mattress factory.
Auction: Where you can get something for nodding.

THIS I’VE LEARNED
We can be as happy as we make up our minds to be. Life is full of things that can make us unhappy, but we don’t have to allow it to ruin our happiness. We’re always in control of our own thoughts and feelings. Even when our day is gloomy or things aren’t going the way we planned, we can still be cheerful if we decide to be.
It’s a good thing that someone else can’t decide for us how we should feel. We get to chose. Think about it.

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY
(Taken from Fr. Hampsch’s book UPLIFTS)
In death we leave all we have and take with us all we are.
One thing everyone in the world does at the same time is grow older.
