about Memorial Day and how special that day should be for everyone to take time to honor and remember those who have died in the nation’s wars. I will say thank you by flying our glorious flag. When I drive down the streets and see so many homes flaunting Old Glory, I can’t help but feel proud and hope. Did you hear me shout GOD BLESS AMERICA?
DID YOU KNOW…
Memorial Day was formerly known as Decoration Day. It is always celebrated on the last Monday in May. It originated during the American Civil War when citizens placed flowers on the graves of those who had been killed in battle. It became a national holiday by an act of Congress in 1971.
ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
At a party, a young wife admonished her husband, “That’s the fourth time you’ve gone back for ice cream and cake. Doesn’t it embarrass you?”
“Why should it?” answered her spouse. “I keep telling them it’s for you.”
TIPS ON STORING FOOD
(Taken from The Household Hint Handbook)
To prevent ice crystals from forming in ice cream, cover the surface with plastic wrap before putting the lid back and returning to the freezer.
Store raisins in a covered jar in the refrigerator.
Marshmallows stay fresh longer if stored along with bread in a bread box. The bread will absorb the moisture to keep them soft.
Store herbs and spices away from stove. They do best in a cool, dry place.
Brown sugar will stay soft in a covered jar with a piece of apple or a prune.
SOMETHING TO REMEMBER
Planning kindness tomorrow doesn’t cure today’s hurts.
No matter how long you nurse a grudge, it won’t’ get better.
