This I’ve Learned

I WAS THINKING…
about the county fair that I went to this past week. Gosh, I remember going as a child. That means that county fairs have been going on for centuries. They are still very much the same except for one major difference…the cost. The parking, entry fee and especially the food was “over the top”.  But there is still one tradition that’s a hit. For one day senior citizens get in free. Of course, the word free is a main attraction.

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
(From Over the Hill and On a Roll)
Fun is like insurance: The older you get, the more it costs.
As people become older, they tend to become quiet. The have more to keep quiet about.
It doesn’t seem fair: By the time a person can afford to lose a golf ball, they can’t hit it that far.
Just when you’ve learned to make the most of your life, most of your life is gone.
By the time a person is wise enough to watch their step, they are too old to go anywhere.

OVERHEARD
As a kid, I use to watch the Wizard of Oz and wonder how someone could talk without a brain. Then I got face book.

LET’S TALK ABOUT BUGS
(Taken from Easy Does It)
When bitten by a mosquito, rub rubbing alcohol on the bite. Be prepared for the mosquito by rubbing alcohol on yourself and it dry before going outside.
Another way to keep insects from you is to apply lavender oil, just like a perfume. People will think you smell good, but insects won’t agree—they’ll leave you alone.
To stop a bug from buzzing around your house, hit it with hair spray. It’ll make their wings stiff and cause the bug to drop and you can swat it.

THIS I’VE LEARNED
How often we feel that we need to be busy all the time. Perhaps we find it hard to give ourselves permission to daydream as we sit for a while and do nothing but be quiet with our thoughts. Not only is it a precious gift we can give ourselves once in a while, but out of quiet thoughts may come priceless ideas. Think about it.
