This I’ve Learned

I WAS THINKING…
How nice it is to have a set day for everyone to express love. Too often love thoughts are left unsaid, Valentine’s Day is a sweet reminder. It’s what the world needs now.
My father was so proud that his name was Valentine. Although, it was usually shortened to Val, he would always introduce himself as Valentine. Maybe that’s the reason I feel a little sentimental on February 14th. HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!

FACTS ABOUT VALENTINE’S DAY                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               (Found this on Google-deem reliable at your own risk)
There was a Roman festival called Lupercalia which was in the middle of February.
During this festival, the boys would select a girl’s name out of a box. They would stay with whoever they picked during the festival. Sometimes they would even end-up getting married. Later on, it was decided to change this festival into a Christian celebration. Thus, the start of Valentine’s Day. This was in the year 496.
Valentine’s Day is the second most popular day to send a card, after Christmas.
Flowers are the main gifts given by men on Valentine’s Day; 73% are bought by men. Women prefer cards. Around 85% of Valentine cards are bought by women.

YOU KNOW YOU’RE GETTING OLD WHEN…
you finally know everything, but you start to forget everything you know.
much of your conversation starts with “Did I tell you this already?” or “What was I saying?”
when you go to bed the same time you used to go out.
you start using the word “thingy” because you can’t remember the word the thingy is called.

PUT VINEGAR TO WORK
(Taken from The Vinegar Anniversary Book)
Clean microwave oven by mixing ¼ cup vinegar and 1 cup water in a small bowl and heat for 5 minutes. This will remove odors and soften baked on food spatters.
Pour ½ cup vinegar down drain, every week. The vinegar will keep the drains smelling sweet and discourage clogs also.
A half cup vinegar added to dish washing water cuts grease and you’ll use less soap.
Counter tops will shine using a mixture of 1 tsp. liquid soap, 3 Tbsp. vinegar, ½ cup of water.
(Stay tuned for more hints about vinegar)

PUNCH LINES
One should be as patient with others as they are with fishing.
People don’t care what you know—they want to know that you care.
